One of my profession’s many perks and privileges is to get access to locations I would otherwise never see. One of those locations is the historic automobile factory of Bugatti in Molsheim, France.
For the product launch of a unique collaboration between GilletteLabs and Bugatti in the form of a special edition of Gillette’s heated razor (allowing men to experience the comfort of a hot towel shave), I was granted access into the sacred halls of Bugatti with their past and present four-wheeled icons.
As the moderator of the event, I had the immense pleasure of speaking with the design directors of both companies about the role identity, history, and tradition play in product design and how that influences the design process. And I got to sit in a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport and rev the engine very carefully, as such as super sports car worth a few million Euro demands a certain respect.
In summary, a fantastic event in breathtaking surroundings with beautiful cars and an amazing team. As I was sitting on the train back to Munich, it almost seemed like a dream, looking at all the pictures I took. A unique job, or as Ettore Bugatti would say, “If it’s not unique, it’s not Bugatti.”
